The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Costa Rican triathlete, Carlos Moncada, attended the Ironman World Championship held in Kona, Hawaii.

The Tico placed in the top 20 competitors and managed to break the national record.

Few people dare to take the challenge of a race like Ironman, where they must complete 4 kilometers of swimming, 180 kilomters of cycling and a marathon of 42 kilometers.

But these distances did not intimidate Moncada, who trained constantly to represent Costa Rica proudly.

He arrived at the finish line with his arms raised in victory.  “The best part was to break the distance record that I had set the previous year at Ironman,” said Moncada.

But not everything was easy and he suffered on the bike ride as fatigue took hold of his legs.  The athlete commented, “I think after kilometer 18 the only way I was able to finish was through mental strength “.

Moncada will return home in a few days to prepare for upcoming competitions, with the satisfaction that 2013 was full of success.
