The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – President Jose Mujica signed the regulation of the law that legalizes marijuana and transforms Uruguay into one of the few countries in the world to have a legal and regulated cannabis market, from planting to sale to the public on Tuesday.

With the signing of Mujica, confirmed to the Associated Press by the Presidency pro-secretary Diego Canepa, the law takes full effect immediately.

Under the law, Uruguay legal residents who register can buy up to 10 grams a week and 40 per month in a pharmacy network, or choose to grow their own marijuana plants or at an associated cannabis club where they can get the drug.
