The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Ticos continue to reap big wins internationally and now two national Ironman triathletes managed to get on the winner’s podium in Florida.
Carlos Moncada and John Garita demonstrated their top conditioning as they dominated their respective categories at Ironman, even though there were some problems due to weather conditions.
The weather played a major role last weekend and forced the organization to suspend the swimming portion, so the competition ended up being a Duathlon with distances of 180 km of cycling and 42 km of track.
Moncada crossed the finish line with a time of 7 hours and 52 minutes, for first place in the 30-34 year-old category and ninth overall.
Garita ended in second place in the 25-29 age category with a time of 8 hours and 11 minutes.
Besides Moncada and Garita other Costa Ricans who also participated were: Valerín Jose Mario Guzman, Miguel Blanco, Stephen Mathieu, Luis Cardenas, Gerardo Campos, Ramon Rojas, Fernando Ramirez, Mario Calderon, Javier Sotela, María Marta Silva and Milton Esquivel. (Crhoy)
