The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Over the weekend, Costa Rican police officers seized a large quantity of cardboard boxes containing hundreds of packs of cigarettes.

Authorities believe that this merchandise entered the country illegally; i.e. without the respective taxes. Commissioner Jose Domingo Cruz Lopez, regional director of the Armed Forces, confirmed that it is more than 35,000 cigarettes.

“It’s not only illegal because of the taxes, but it’s a matter of health,”the police chief said, adding that the alleged contraband was hidden in a supermarket located in Paso Canoas, in Puntarenas Brokers.
