The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The trout of the Cerro de la Muerte area are being prepared for the third annual trout fair, which will take place from March 29 to 30 in Trinidad de Dota from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm.

According to the Trout Producers Association of Cerro de la Muerte, the show will feature about 75 trout producers, along with other local produce such as avocados, apples, plums, blackberries, passion fruit and vegetables, among others, all of excellent quality and with low prices.

“We want people to visit us from around the country to learn about the area and enjoy the scenic beauty offered by Cerro de la Muerte,” said the organizer.

Alvaro Otárola Fallas, head of the Aquaculture Department of the Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Incopesca) said it is estimated that there are about 300 farmers dedicated to the production of trout, distributed in the Los Santos area, on the slopes of the Poas and Irazu Volcano and near Bajos del Toro de Valverde Vega.

But he says that in Santa Maria, San Gerardo, San Marcos and La Trinidad de Dota, the population is concentrated. There are an estimated 150 producers who offer visitors sightseeing options and recreational fishing.

Fallas also said that nearly 550 tons of trout are produced per year and much of it is exported to the United States.
