The marathon is a great opportunity for athletes to compete while enjoying the amazing and exotic scenery of the Pacific coast.
Being certified by the AIMS and authorized by the IAAF, the Tamarindo Beach marathon attracts hundreds of athletes from all over Costa Rica as well as other parts of the world such as Kenya, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, USA, and Europe.
The race offers different distances for participants: 42 k, 30k, 21k, 10k and 5k. All of them will be run on asphalt roads, except for the 5k which will be run completely on sand.
The 42k, 30k, and 21k events start in Tamarindo downtown and head towards the outskirts of the Pampa. The run begins at 5AM so that participants can enjoy a nice and pleasant weather. The 10k event begins half and hour later.
Meanwhile, the 5k event will take place at 3PM on the beach in front of the Tamarindo Diria Hotel and consists of a 5 k loop that starts and finishes in the starting point. This is a recreational race thought for amateur and experienced runners who want to take the challenge of running on sand and simply enjoy this great sport.
Several days before the competition, a press conference will be held to provide all the details about the competition as well as share the names of the international athletes that will participate in the 2012 edition of the marathon.
As usual, the Tamarindo Beach Marathon Expo will be held two days before the competition at the Convention Center of the Tamarindo Diria Hotel.
The expo starts Thursday, September 20th at 10AM and finishes the following day, on Friday night.
At the TBM expo participants must pick up their registration material and packet.
The expo is open to the general public and admission is free. Last year, over 3000 people visited the expo, which features vendors and exhibitors for souvenirs, product samples, health and medical services, entertainment activities, and much more.
The night before the race, runners will have the chance to enjoy the TBM traditional pre-race dinner party at the host hotel. The hotel’s international chef prepares 10 different types of powered-up pasta for participants to enjoy. The dinner is accompanied by music and great entertainment, and it is a chance for runners to spend time and mingle with elite athletes and participants from all the events.
