The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – President-elect Luis Guillermo Solis said he is giving his unqualified support to the teachers strike that began on Monday and will last until the professionals receive their full salary payment, but the union must also commit to end the strike.

Solis met this morning with a diverse group of representatives of social sectors, including trade unions and cooperatives. The meeting covered several topics, but the most important was the presentation of the document “Hands”, generated by sectors that will be analyzed by the new president. The meeting also addressed the issue of manifestation.

“I join the strike, I see no other way to put it. I think it touches on wages, the failures that had the system can only motivate a reaction. Now, I want the problem resolved and the strike to end, because there are too many children and young people who are being harmed,” Solis said.

“We feel that we have been given priority to dialogue and not confrontation. The president said he supports the strike, but we must reach agreement as soon as possible, this is a new government,” said Albino Vargas, the union leader.
