Six More Costa Rican Companies Awarded Carbon Neutral Certification

The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Six more companies have been certified as carbon neutral, after they received the declaration of the Institute of Technical Standards of Costa Rica (Inteco).

The companies were recognized after passing verification by their respective emission inventories, as requested by the Ministry of Environment and Energy (Minae).

The latest C-Neutral companies: Musmanni bakeries, ANC Group, Box Ande, Kineret, Equitron SA and the Foreign Trade of Costa Rica (Procomer).

They have offset their remaining emissions and implemented policies related to energy efficiency, energy management and investment in cleaner technologies, among other actions that also lead to savings in operating costs of organizations said Inteco.

These join 15 other companies that already have the certification, among which there are tourism, banks, auto companies, and more.

Of these organizations, SAG Geocycle Environmental Services, BAC San José and Mapache Rent a Car certification renewed after their respective maturity in early 2014.

Inteco Executive Director, Mauricio Céspedes, said that domestic companies are really committed and making large advances in measuring and reducing their carbon footprint.

In becoming carbon neutral companies achieve benefits such as contributing to the reduction of  greenhouse gas emissions, identifying processes to achieve more efficient practices, energy and economic savings and stimulating possible future government agencies.

The country’s goal is to be carbon neutral by 2021.
