The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The environmental advisor of the President of Nicaragua, Jaime Incer, said today that the government of Costa Rica “exaggerated” during their protests before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

“Costa Rica is exaggerating their protest to discuss ecological damages in Head Harbour,” said the Nicaraguan scientist.

Head Harbour is an area of โ€‹โ€‹2.5 hectares which both Nicaragua and Costa Rica consider their property. According Incer, who is an ecologist and geographer, Harbour Head is a swamp in the mouth of the river San Juan and has lush vegetation.

Costa Rica requested precautionary measures for the second time, as part of a trial that both countries face in The Hague. The Costa Rican government accused Nicaragua of sending staff to Harbour Head.

“The truth is that there is no destruction of the ecology, because there is a progressive delta that continuously makes and breaks the river,” said the scientist.  โ€œIn contrast, the San Juan de Nicaragua River is affected by road construction in the Costa Rican territory.โ€

Nicaragua and Costa Rica will hold a public hearing before the ICJ between October 14th and 17th. (EFE)
