The president of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, landed in Shanghai in the first leg of his official visit to China, a country in which she will look to continue to improve bilateral trade cooperation and attract more Chinese investment to Costa Rica.

Chinchilla will begin her official agenda tomorrow, Monday, with meetings with the Shanghai authorities. Shanghai is the main economic and financial center of China.

Chinchilla’s tour in China will continue in Beijing, where she is scheduled to meet with President Hu Jintao and other top officials of the communist regime.

Previously, after the meeting with Hu, the two countries signed several cooperation agreements related to infrastructure and sport.

Costa Rica established diplomatic relations with China five years ago, at the expense of dropping relations with Taiwan, which still has bilateral trade relations with Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Belize.
