President of Costa Rica Calls Garcia Marquez’s Death ‘Devastating’

    The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The President of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, mourned the death of Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, which she described as devastating and inconsolable.

    “Devastating as ‘Chumscrubber ‘ or ‘Chronicle of a Death Foretold’. Inconsolable as’ One Hundred Years of Solitude’. # RIP @ elgabo,” the president wrote in her Twitter account.

    The Nobel Prize winner in Literature in 1982 died today at age 87 at his home in Mexico City.

    His health had deteriorated in recent weeks due to a respiratory complication at a hospital in Mexico City from which he left to continue his recovery at home.

    Gabriel García Márquez, one of the most important writers of the twentieth century, was born on March 6, 1927 in Aracataca, a city in the Caribbean region that inspired his work. (ACAN-EFE)
