    The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Pope Francisco has named a new bishop for the diocese of Ciudad Quesada Costa (north), named José Manuel Herrera Garita.

    Garita Herrera, of the clergy of the Archdiocese of San José Costa Rica, was rector of “Our Lady of the Angels” National Major Seminary. The new bishop was born in Heredia, in the Archdiocese of San José Costa Rica, on March 26, 1965.

    He studied philosophy and theology at the National Seminary of Costa Rica. He graduated in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on November 26, 1988 per the clergy of the Archdiocese of San José.

    As a priest he was parochial vicar, professor of sacred scripture at the Autonomous University of Central America and professor of canon law at the Catholic University.

    He was rector of the “National Votive Shrine Temple to the Sacred Heart of Jesus”, vicar, spiritual director since January 2010 and rector of “Our Lady of the Angels” National Major Seminary.
