The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The High Speed Train from Mexico City to Queretaro, which will cover a distance of 210 kilometers with a speed of 300 kilometers per hour, will be the first of its kind in Latin America according to the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT).
The SCT said in a statement that this train will transport 23,000 passengers per day in a “safe, fast, convenient and environmentally friendly” way and have an impact on more than 25 million people and generate 60,000 jobs during construction.
The agency said that the train, the first of its kind in Central America, will leave the Buenavista railroad station in Mexico City to the center of the city of Queretaro, the state capital in two hours one way, four hours round trip.
“The winning bidder of this tender will sign a joint public works contract for the development of the final design, construction, delivery and commissioning of track, rolling stock, equipment, systems and other components of the high-speed train,” said the SCT.
The official announcement will be published on August 15 and will be open to all companies interested in participating in the construction of this transport system.
The government expects this project to start construction this year and begin operations in December 2017.
