Latin American Poetic Cinema Film Festival Opens in Lima

The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The First International Festival ‘Cinemapoesía: Literature and interactive media’  in Lima will feature documentaries, short films and video poems inspired by poets and poems, from Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Peru.

The festival, to be presented at cultural centers in Lima until next Saturday, has been inspired by the book 5 Meters Poems published in 1927 by the Peruvian avant-garde poet, Carlos Oquendo de Amat.

“The work of Oquendo de Amat is a key piece of this festival,” said Lazarte Diego, one of the organizers, adding that it is the first work relating to cinema and new technologies in South America.

Lazarte said the date of this cultural celebration is also related to Oquendo, since April 17 marks 109 years since his birth.

The organization said that the lineup will include, among others, the documentary “Poetry Film vs. Photorealist Cinema” by Mexican director Sandino Bucio, and “I’m Luchito Hernández,” a short film directed by Lazarte and inspired by the books, poems and illustrations of the Peruvian poet, Luis Hernández Waiter (1941-1977).

The festival has been organized by the Ministry of Culture, Catrina Producers, and Peru Tambo Publishers. (EFE)
