Guanacaste's Alarm Clock Was a 5.2 Earthquake This Morning

    The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – A 5.2 earthquake shook residents awake in Nicoya, Guanacaste this morning. The quake, according to the report by the National Seismological Network, was at 5:42 a.m. with a depth of 34.8 kilometers, 1 mile northwest of Nicoya Quebrada Honda, located in Guanacaste.

    The quake was felt strongly Nicoya, Nandayure, Zarcero, San Ramon, Naranjo, Esparza and Athens. It was also felt in Ciudad Quesada, Miramar Puntarenas and Barranca.

    The report indicates that the origin of the earthquake was from faulting in the crust of the Caribbean plate (local or superficial).
