The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Yesterday the National Guard arrested three fishermen in the Golfo Dulce, who were fishing with live bait which is an illegal tactic.
There is a rule against using such techniques since it is a threat to species like sailfish, affecting fishing and other commercial activities, as established in the Agreement No. 090-2009 of March 12, 2009, issued by the Costa Rican Institute of Fishing and Aquaculture (INCOPESCA).
The vessel found fishing with live bait is named Miriam IV, registration PG-9381, and was around Puerto Jimenez with four crew members.
After receiving the functional environmental prosecution in Golfito, Coast Guard officials proceeded to take the boat to the dock in Golfito, so that both the ship and crew could be seized and brought to justice.
