Dengue in Costa Rica Down 70% But Still Concentrated in Three Areas

    The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Although the overall level of dengue cases decreased to 70% compared to the same week last year, in Talamanca an outbreak of this disease has been reported, and there are three other regions where most people are still contracting the disease.

    These other areas are Chorotegan, the Caribbean and Brunca Huétar regions, according to statistics from the Health Surveillance, which represents78% of the national incidence.

    Also, lower on that list are Sarapiqui, Puntarenas, and Limón Guácimo.

    But there are areas outside San José, Talamanca, Cañas, San Carlos and Bagaces that have seen cases.

    A total of 3,388 dengue cases were registered as of June 14. So far only two cases of severe dengue have been reported.
