The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Cuba received 1,282,734 foreign tourists between January and April this year, a figure that exceeded the 60,804 visitors in the same period last year, reported a bulletin from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) of the island.

Canada remains the main country of origin to Cuba, followed by Germany, UK, France and Italy.

Last year the island had 2,852,572 million passengers, of which over a million were Canadian, and although they did not reach their forecast of three million passengers, they recorded a modest growth of 0.5%.

France, Argentina, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Russia and Venezuela, in that order, also were among the countries that sent more tourists to the island in 2013.

International tourism receipts left Cuba for about 1.804 million dollars in 2013, mostly in accommodation and food, according to official data. EFE
