The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Next week the sector of the tourism industry will gather to discuss political issues and national and international promotion.
As the new government takes a greater commitment to the tourism industry, the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) announced this noon at the Union Club a meeting between entrepreneurs and Wilhelm Von Breymann, Minister of Tourism.
“Two months after the government took control over the country, the Chamber expressed the need to convene the industry and get to know the work proposal of the ICT, with a chance to tie the commitment of government authorities for taking on tourism as policy of the State and at the same time, defining the north that will be conducted as important economic sector of the country,” declared Heriberto Pablo Abarca, Canatur president.
Abarca added that the sector is of paramount importance to know about the plans of ICT in defending the interests of the industry as well as promoting the country at national and international level.
“Issues regarding the processes for the Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST) and the tourist declaratory companies. In addition to coordination with other ministries and institutions for the implementation of vital projects for tourism like infrastructure, health and red tape,” explained Abarca.
Although the tourism industry accounts for 20% of total exports and 8% of gross domestic product (GDP), the impact of the financial crisis, the contraction of the European market and internal factors such as the behavior of the exchange rate and the loss of competitiveness caused the tourism sector to live a period of uncertainty in recent years.
