The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Next Thursday marks the Fourth National Fair of strawberries in Vara Blanca.

“We will have typical food of the area as well as crafts and everything strawberry like strawberry ice cream and specialty desserts. The event was created with the interest of families in mind, so no liquor is allowed inside the fairgrounds to fully make it a family friendly activity,” said Rafael Barboza, one of the organizers.

According to Barboza the fair will include competitions for the largest and the smallest strawberry and a strawberry eating contest. In addition, attendees can enjoy a helicopter tour of the area.

For younger guests, there will carousels and for those who are older but still young at heart there will be music and dancing. There will also be humorous shows.

Attendees can purchase a kilo of strawberries 1,500 colones.

The official opening will be on Thursday, April 10 at noon in front of the Catholic church in the village, popularly known as the Slopes of the Poas Volcano.

On Sunday April 13, the biggest cake in Costa Rica will be prepared and over three thousand people will be able to taste it starting at 10:00 am.

At the fair in 2013, over 15,000 people came to enjoy and organizers hope for this occasion to exceed that figure.
