The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Drug Enforcement Police of Costa Rica (PCD) today seized a total of 554 kilos of cocaine that was hidden in a truck on the border with Nicaragua.
The incident occurred today at dawn at the Peñas Blancas border post during a review on the truck which was driven by a Nicaraguan named Yamil Picado, 35, who was arrested.
The cocaine was hidden inside metal drawers, under a load of junk that was transported by the truck said the Ministry of Security in a statement.
“Given the suspicious and nervous attitude of the subject and because of the police’s intuition, the PCD removed the scrap and found the cocaine,” said their bulletin.
According to police information, the route of the truck was Costa Rica, then Guatemala.
If convicted, the arrested subject will face a maximum prison sentence of 20 years for the crime of international drug trafficking.
This is the second time this year that the Costa Rican authorities have discovered drugs hidden on a truck in junk on the same route to Guatemala. (ACAN-EFE)
