The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Costa Rican government today expressed solidarity with the people of Chile following the devastating 8.2 Richter magnitude earthquake that shook the north of the country on April 1.

Through a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “a profound sense of solidarity and condolences for the victims and casualties caused by the earthquake that struck the region of Arica.”

“We know that the people of Chile will overcome with the pain and loss caused by the earthquake,” the bulletin cites.

The Costa Rican Foreign Ministry also said it has no reports that any Costa Ricans have been affected by the earthquake.

The Costa Rican Embassy in Santiago reported that it stays in constant contact with domestic residents in northern Chile.

There are two Costa Ricans living in Arica, two in Iquique and three in Antofagasta.

As explained by the Ministry, most are young families with a Chilean spouse and young children, none of which were affected on April 1. (ACAN-EFE)
