The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – A representative of the National Symposium on Coffee Culture, held at the CICAFE in Barva de Heredia, declared the rust fungus pest under control.

Miguel Barquero, Icafe research coordinator, said the producers are making very good spraying and yet have everything under control.

“Right now it is reaching levels of around four percent, much lower than the 35 percent we saw last year when the figure affected millions,” he said.

“This leads us to predict that coffee production will increase by at least seven percent than last year, up 100,000 bushels.”

According Icafe president, Ronald Peters, training producers and more resources will be requested to avoid another crisis.

The symposium was attended by international experts and will conclude tomorrow.
