According to nutritionist Arce Gloriana, “A melon is a fruit with low calories (34 calories in 100 grams of fruit) and great source of vitamin A that helps the body to protect from lung disease and oral issues. The fruit also contains high levels of vitamin B. It is important to note that the consumption of foods rich in vitamin C helps the body developing resistance against infectious agents.”
Arce, specialist of the Nutrition Center Larisa Páez, explained that an essential contribution to melon is “to reduce chance of developing metabolic syndromes, a situation in which the risk factors for people suffering from cardiovascular disease or diabetes are increased. In addition to being rich in antioxidant flavonoids like beta-carotene and lutein, the consumption protects its cells while also being protection against the colon, breast, endometrium, and pancreas cancer. ”
She recommended a nutritional plan to consume a 100 grams portion to reap all the benefits, especially vitamin A, as it protects the eyes of the “age-related macular degeneration,” helps against coronary heart disease, controls heart rate and blood pressure.
