The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – At 2:50 am, a strong earthquake shook Costa Ricans. According to the Earthquake Engineering Laboratory of the University of Costa Rica (LIS-UCR), the movement had a magnitude of 4.7 Mw, 13 kilometers west of San Carlos de Tarrazu with a depth of 20.5 kilometers.

The movement was felt in much of the Central Valley, most strongly in Carthage, Ciudad Colón, Escazú, Savannah, Heredia and other areas. Reports by the population through social networks like Facebook indicate that the movement was also strong and long in places like Carthage, Tibás, San Joaquin de Flores, Hatillo , Jaco, Coronado, Miramar de Puntarenas, Orosi and elsewhere in the country.

People also report hearing rumblings while the tremor developed.

A 3:08 am an aftershock was reported. It was 2.7 located 14 kilometers west of San Carlos de Tarrazu a depth of 12 kilometers.

So far, no damage has been reported by any of the quakes.
