The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Fifth National Robotics Olympiad (ONR) is being held this weekend. The competition consists of 129 teams and 344 competitors between the ages of 10 and 22 years. Winners will move on to participate in the World Robotics Olympiad in Russia this November.
Participants will face challenges that recall the legacy of pioneers like Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, Sputnik, the Lunokhod program, and the recent Mars exploration.
This activity is organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT) and the Technological Institute of Costa Rica (TEC) and aims to encourage young people to use technology so that those who are scientifically inclined can develop their skills and career choices in these disciplines.
The challenges that face competitors include launching rockets, space garbage collection, recreation experimental stations and the conquest of the Red Planet.
