The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Costa Rican authorities today arrested six suspects of a drug gang that used boats, helicopters and heliports to traffic illegal drugs.
The deputy director of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ), Gustavo Mata, said today in a press conference that they carried out 12 raids in several communities in the province of Limón (Caribbean) and arrested six Costa Ricans.
According to Mata, this band was responsible for fueling the Caribbean Sea to international drug trafficking boats, but also received shipments of cocaine stored in several farms.
They also had heliports where helicopters carried the drugs in and out of the country, apparently to other Central American nations.
In the raids, they also seized $25,000 and five million colones in cash.
The OIJ reported that the operation is ongoing and would not rule capturing more suspects in the coming hours.
This operation comes after the authorities recently discovered four heliport camps in mountainous areas of the Caribbean and the northern part of Costa Rica, near the border with Nicaragua.
Authorities believe all these areas, weapons and airfields are linked. (EFE)
