The Costa Rica News (TCRN) โ€“ The fourth edition of the Global Green Economy Index, prepared by Dual Citizen Consulting LLC, analyzes 60 countries and 70 cities in the world whose economies are oriented towards greater environmental sustainability. From the top ten of that list, Costa Rica stands in third place.

This is the ranking released two days ago:

Sweden and Norway topped the list, followed by Costa Rica, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, Iceland and Spain.

It is the first time that Costa Rica is taken into account in this ranking, and the report notes that “the performance of Costa Rica is extremely good (…) an impressive result for such a small country.”

The study examines the issue of leadership and climate change, efficiency sectors (construction, transport, energy and tourism) and investment markets as well as environmental and natural capital of each nation.

The lowest ranked countries were Ghana, Qatar, Cambodia, China, Thailand and Vietnam. But the study also has a warning for other economies like the United States, Japan, Australia and the Netherlands, noting that in these nations people are perceived as environmentally responsible when in fact their performance is poor. (Crhoy)
