The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Consulate of Costa Rica in Managua has issued at least 23,000 visas since last December 11, which has exceeded the expectations of the Costa Rican authorities.
The Costa Rican Foreign Ministry said that between December 11 and January 6, the consulate issued 23,080 visas, and one of the busiest days was Jan. 3, when 3,100 were delivered.
Much of this movement is that many of Nicaraguans living in Costa Rica come to the country to enjoy the holidays and year-end festivities.
Costa Rica reopened its consulate in Managua on December 11 after several weeks out of action due to opposition from a group of neighbors.
After these events, the Costa Rican government had to find another place to install the seat.
The new consulate allows a more fluid pace because they are running 10 counters and also provides special care for people with physical disabilities, pregnant women and elderly people.
Official data indicates that in Costa Rica which has 4.7 million people, some 400,000 Nicaraguans are living legally, most of whom are employed in agriculture, construction and domestic. (EFE)
