By using extensions, renovations, and even environmental projects, hotels keep the tourism in Guanacaste flowing. This is coupled with the high flow of passengers to the airport in Liberia and the small domestic terminals of Tamarindo and Nosara.
In terms of investment, Reserva Conchal presented two environmental projects on Friday: an aqueduct in the community as well as a desalination plant. These add up to almost $4 million in investments.
The plant that will convert salt water to drinking water will be launched in the next few weeks and will be the first in the country.
Once the modules are installed for operation, the plant will be able to provide 23 liters per second of water for human consumption and the maintenance of green areas of the resort.
“Reserva Conchal seeks to provide a short- and long-term solution for the surrounding communities and for our own operation,” said Helmuth Sauter, director of Reserva Conchal, subsidiary of Fifco.
Within the area of Reserva Conchal, Hotel W by Westin is also being built, which will open in August 2018.
The complex will be operated by the Starwood chain and will require an investment of up to $50 million. The complex will have 150 rooms and generate approximately 350 new jobs.
In April, the hotel opened Secrets Papagayo after an investment of $70 million for the remodeling of the previous Double Tree Papagayo. The hotel generated close to 350 new jobs.
This new hotel is targeted at couples and adults looking for a way to escape from their daily routine. The complex now has 202 rooms, 65 of which are suites with a sea view and access to a private club.
Another resort is expected to be constructed in the Gulf of Papagayo by Monte del Barco, a subsidiary of the Investment Fund of Real Estate Development of the same name, which is managed by Aldesa.
$100 million will be invested in this complex, and it will be part of the Rosewood Hotels and Resorts chain. It will have 130 rooms.
The company will proceed with the architectural design with the firm HKS, based in Dallas, as well as take steps with them to raise the capital necessary for the construction project.
“Through the signing of this agreement and its future financing, the company seeks to revive the Monte del Barco project, while positioning it as a worldwide luxury destination,” said Javier Chavez, Chairman of Aldesa.
As for the arrival of tourists, passenger traffic has increased by 35% in the last
six months, i.e. 185,000 people more than 2015.
This influx of tourists could bring new investment starting next month that will allow for the improvement of the airport, including the taxiway, the runway, the fast exits, and other areas that require constant maintenance.
“Coriport continues implementing new actions that strengthen the region, such as the expansion of the passenger terminal that will cost more than $10 million, as well as the start of the air freight terminal project,” stressed Cesar Jaramillo, general manager of Coriport, administrator of the terminal.
