In October 2017, the iconic Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica will be celebrating 120 years since its original inauguration in 1897.

In an effort to honor this special occasion, the theater plans to produce a seven-chapter book which will include commentary by professional and researchers in the areas of vocal and instrumental music, architecture, theater, dance, history and sociology. They promise the book to be enriched with unique photography.

Of course, a book of such high standards is no cheap task to complete. Thus, the Teatro Nacional would like to cordially invite you to a special gala concert so as to fundraise the bookโ€™s production.

    Gala Details

The gala will be held on January 28, 2016 at 7pm with a special concert by concertmaster Marvin Araya and the Philharmonic Orchestra titled โ€œUna velada de musica trova,โ€ or โ€œAn Evening of Trova Music.โ€ Included in the repertoire of the concert are some of historyโ€™s most famous troubadours: Silvio Rodriguez, Mercedes Sosa and Joan Manuel Serrat.

During the event, guests will receive a 20th Anniversary copy of El Centro Nacional de la Cultura (CENAC) โ€” De la Fรกbrica de Licores a la Cultura, a book describing the development of Costa Ricaโ€™s National Liquor Factory into the contemporary Cultural Center that is CENAC. There will also be a toast during and discussion in the theaterโ€™s gardens following the event.

    How to Attend

Tickets are available to the public for a donation of $200 per couple and can be purchased through the theaterโ€™s online box office.
