Ministry of Health to Review IVF Bill

Costa Rica News – The Ministry of Health announced that they will meet with a group of experts to consider the bill to regulate IVF before presenting the bill.

The review with the participation of lawyers, the Ombudsman, the 18 families benefited from the decision of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, doctors and health authorities as well as the Social Security Fund (CCSS) will be held on 27 and 28 February to 1 March.

The original draft, was declined to pass regarding some controversial issues that must be analyzed, such as whether the technique can be applied in women over age 40, single women or how to regulate potential donors.

The bill enact two supplementary regulations, one for granting permits to those seeking health oriented service offer and another where you define the characteristics of people who are eligible for this fertilization technique.

The Minister hoped that the text decrees within 15 days, to then be published in the Official Gazette.

Although not referred to in the text, at the discretion of the chief staff of Health, any pregnancy in women over 40 years should be considered as high risk.
