The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The owners of 508,000 vehicles already paid their registration for 2014. This was reported by Guillermo Constenla, CEO of the National Insurance Institute (INS), stating that this amount represents 45% of all cars that must pay.

According to the chief, the number of vehicles account for 70,000 more than the previous year in the same period.

To date, this fund means the sum of 78 billion colones, which are divided into 20% for INS, with the rest divided between the Ministry of Finance, which collects about 70%, the Road Safety Council (COSEVI) with 6% and the remaining for other institutions.

This year the estimated collection will be around 1,183,732 vehicles. “Last year about 50 thousand vehicles remained unpaid and this year will be around between 50 thousand to 60 thousand vehicles that are left unpaid,” Constenla said.

According to the guidelines of the INS, to pay the mark, the owner must present their identity card, the license plate number of the car, and a new mechanic review for the year.

Vehicle owners have until December 31 at noon for payment. After that point, payments will include applicable penalties.
