The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Hundreds of faithful Christians participated in the traditional pilgrimage to the Shrine of Santo Cristo de Esquipulas, popularly known as the ‘Black Christ’ of Alajuelita.

Most of the group were residents of Alajuelita, however, a significant number of walkers were from other areas.

The pastor of Alajuelita, Luis Guillen, said the pilgrimage this Sunday is one of the largest he’s seen since the tradition began.

The priest also confirmed that during the tour many of the faithful, from various corners of the country, approached him to describe the prayers that were answered by the Black Christ.

The activity was led by the Archbishop of San Josรฉ, Monsignor Josรฉ Rafael Barquero. Next to him, Vilma a woman from Heredia, said she went to the Shrine to ask the Christ Black to help a sick baby in her family.

Meanwhile Kener Arroyo, a resident of Alajuelita, said it was his 7th pilgrimage. “I pray for the health of my mother, my nephews and my brothers.”

At the end of pilgrimage a solemn Eucharist was held, presided over by Archbishop Jose Rafael Barquero. (ADN)
