The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Government of Honduras issued a press release which stated health alert in 112 of the 298 municipalities in the country, by a dengue epidemic that has claimed the lives of four people, and 129 thousand n serious condition.
“In response, the government, at the direction of President Porfirio Lobo, has made available to the Ministry of Health all available resources of the State to reduce the epidemic,” explained the communication made Friday night .
The Honduran president said at a meeting with his ministers who could declare emergency nationwide total for Tuesday.
Authorities said that until last June 8 had reported 8,000 people affected with dengue, of which 6,000suffer the classic variety, and the remaining 219,000contracted the hemorrhagic variety.
On June 10 confirmed the fourth death from the disease, an eight-year-old died in hospital Social Security Tegucigalpa (capital). Three other adults died in April.
The president ordered all government offices to coordinate with the Ministry of Health medical operatives to be held in municipalities on alert. The authorities asked people to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites. Dengue is characterized by fever, headache, vomiting and bleeding.
The 2010 was one of the worst years in Honduras regarding the dengue epidemic, at that time there were 83 killed, more than 66 000 cases of common dengue 3,000 with hemorrhagic dengue. Meanwhile, last year, there were eight thousand cases and two deaths in Honduras because of the same disease.
