The Costa Rica News (TCRN) –ย Today the National Emergency Commission of Costa Rica (CNE) declared a preventative weather alert for the North Pacific area due to the wave intensity and strong winds.

Based on reports from the Center for Research in Marine Sciences and Limnology (CIMAR) at the University of Costa Rica, the CNE recommended that people and businesses take precautions when on or near the water.

According to CIMAR, from today until next Thursday strong wind conditions with a maximum of 26 knots will be coming from the northeast, causing rough waves in theย Pacific.

The warning applies toย the Gulf of Nicoya (North Pacific) and surrounding areas, as well Cabo Velas, Bahia Salinas and from the province of Puntarenas (Central Pacific) to Chira Island.

Municipal emergency committees reported that they are maintaining constant vigilance throughout the week and are preparedย in case of an event, especially after the catamaran disaster that left over a hundred tourists stranded at sea.

In particular, authorities are asking those navigatingย small boats to take extra caution. Swimmers and beachgoers should also be careful of rip tides and other forceful currents.ย (ACAN-EFE)
