Heredia will have the first Aging Center of the country

The idea for the first Aging Center of the country was born as a project that gives the elderly the possibility of continuing to develop their abilities.

This center doesn’t work the same as an Elderly Home – it doesn’t offer the opportunity to stay there to sleep. It will try to be a site in which the elderly can spend their days.

Its name looks to display the difference from daily care centers, because the fundamental idea of the Center is so that adults can continue to develop whatever skills they like.

For example, if an elderly person knows English, they can teach courses so that other adults can also learn the language.

This is what Kenneth Arguedas explained, from the Office for Gender Equality and Equity of the Municipality of Heredia, who also commented that they are trying to form an alliance between the municipalities of Conapam and Ageco.

“Since the previous year the construction for the Center of Active Aging was budgeted. This center provides the space for the elderly, but from an aging integral,” he explained.

This Center seeks to give greater participation to the elderly population, so that they themselves train others.

The construction of the Center is quite advanced, as they have already accounted for the necessary studies and space.

“We currently have the designs of how the Center is going to look as a sign of tender to be awarded to any private company,” he commented.

If any person wishes to have more information about this Center, they can ask the Municipality of Heredia.

Activities:

In the Central Park of Heredia this Saturday there will be a series of activities, in which the principal guests are elderly people.

It begins with a walk at 8:00 a.m. out of the National University. Then, there is a breakfast and different artistic activities.
