The National Museum has a range of fun workshops for free, mostly for children over 7 years free. There will be 19 workshops between the 4th and 15th of July in the mornings and afternoons.
In some cases the workshops require an investment in materials, but in most cases no expenditure is required. There is no pre-registration and children should arrive the day of the workshop to participate in various workshops if desired. Information is subject to change.
A requirement is that children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the workshop. The adult can stay in the museum and participate in the event.
For matters of space, availability of materials and so that different people can attend workshops, participation of groups organized by companies, institutions or individuals is not possible.
Here are the workshops offered:
1- The indigenous oral narrative and its application in the arts
Through oral history and the Cabécares Bribri people, participants will learn the traditions of these indigenous peoples and may draw up their own artwork. The workshop will be taught by the cultural promoter Magda Vargas Mora.
Target Audience: Children between 8 and 12 years old

2- The trees our friends
Trees, besides being awesome beings, are also support for the life of other organisms, including humans. Attendees will have fun putting together your own tree model that can be in memory of the activity.
Target Audience: Children between 7 and 12 years

3- Megafauna fossils from Costa Rica
Attendees will learn about the giant mammals that lived in Costa Rica during the Pleistocene era (2.58 million years to 11,700 years ago), and also will visit the exhibition to see their remains and make a craft imitating a fossil.

4- Pre-Columbian Detectives
Observation is one of the most important elements to implement when we appreciate our cultural heritage. Through various activities participants will discover hidden clues in pre-Columbian art that allow them to know how our ancestors lived.

5- Jade: Green Magic
Jade is a semi-precious stone that Indians used in ancient times to create luxury objects. It was a means to demonstrate power, but also to express ideas and beliefs. In the workshop participants will learn about objects made with green stones and make a craft related to the topic that will also be a memento of the experience.
Target Audience: Children between 7 and 12 years.

6- Games perception and imagination
Games and activities for developing attention, interaction and imagination.
Target Audience: Children between 10 and 12 years

7- Qigong- Taichi Workshop
A workshop with exercises that are made up of fluid, circular and dynamic movements that improve breathing, posture, balance, flexibility, serenity, harmony, energy and general welfare. The workshop will be taught by the instructor Ineke Lamey.
Target Audience: People over 50 years.
Hours: Thursday July 7 and Thursday July 14, 9:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Materials: Bring comfortable clothes and water.
8- Pre-Columbian Gold
Participants will learn about manufacturing techniques of pre-Columbian gold objects, their use and meaning. They will also make a craft related to the subject and to take as a souvenir of the activity.
Target Audience: Children between 7 and 12 years.

9- Water, land and air (Origami for kids with animal figures)
The workshop is an adaptation of the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. Using different techniques participants will create various figures of animals with this material.
Target Audience: Children between 7 and 12 years.

10- Painting oxcarts
In this workshop participants will learn about the important tradition of boyeo and wagon, declared heritage of humanity. They also learn a craft by the way of painting the wheels of the wagon, thanks to the instructions of the master painters of carts Wilson and Andrea Moreno Bonilla.
Target Audience: Children between 7 and 12 years.
Hours: Friday July 8th from 9:00 to 12:00 M.D.

11- Games
Participants will spend a fun afternoon with games that allow them to use their intelligence, learn, and share with other children in a healthy and entertaining way.

12- Expedition Delta Diquís
In this workshop, participants will learn about the archaeological sites of Delta Dikes, declared World Heritage games, and create a craft related to the topic.
Target Audience: Children between 7 and 12 years.
Hours: Monday July 11th, 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.

13- Workshop on Indigenous Spirituality (Shamanism)
The workshop will introduce participants to the phenomenon of shamanism as a form of spirituality. We will talk about this worldwide phenomenon and its particular manifestations in ancient and modern cultures of our country.
The activity will focus on the importance of the person of the shaman, ideas about the material and spiritual dimensions of nature, the mystical rites, myths, and objects related to this way of seeing the world.
It also seeks to enable people to incorporate part of the sensitivity present in the way we see the world through the use of manual activities and meditation that enable a bridge between this system of thought and life.
Target Audience: People over 18
Hours: Monday July 11th, Tuesday July 12th, and Wednesday July 13th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. (The workshop takes place over 3 days)

14- The small ocarina
Participants will learn about pre-Columbian ocarinas from a story that will teach them the value of archaeological heritage and the commitment we have to care. They also visit the exhibition “Music and rituals in Bahia Garza”.
Target Audience: Children between 6 and 9 years.

15- Screenshot
In this workshop, participants will visit the new exhibit “Catch” where they can reflect on violence and what it does to people. Then through different activities, games and crafts, they will learn different values and reinforce the importance of peace and life without violence.
Target Audience: Children between 10 and 12 years.

16- Ancient Water
Water is one of the most necessary natural resources for human beings. Through games and activities, participants will appreciate the importance of this resource for ancient communities and how essential it remains for us.
Target Audience: Children between 7 and 12 years
Schedule: Thursday July 14th, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

17- Secrets of old photos
Through games and activities, participants can learn about the old photographs and what they tell us of people and society of the past. The workshop will be held in the exhibition “Inside” and “The Magic of Photography”.
Target Audience: Children who can read and write

18- Pre-Columbian vessel
Participants will take a tour of ancient history and know the basic techniques that our indigenous ancestors used to work the mud. During the workshop, in a very funny way, participants can create their own vessel using traditional techniques. In addition, people will learn about the importance of archaeological objects for history and culture.
Target Audience: Children between 5 and 12 years, as well as adults.

19- Mother Nature
We depend on nature for our survival, but we lost contact with everything around us, therefore destroying it. The workshop will look through activities and crafts that the children can learn about the natural world and become more aware of the importance of conservation.
