Inaugural Costa Rica Fruit Festival Going Off-Grid

Author: Zander Hathaway

Fruit The World is hosting a week-long event to cultivate and celebrate natural health through a fruit-based diet and lifestyle at Punta Mona on the Southern Caribbean coast.

This September 16th to 23rd, the Costa Rica Fruit Festival will feature a great variety of fresh, local, organic, fruits and gourmet raw vegan cuisine, along with empowering activities related to permaculture, community building, natural living, healing arts, and live music. With a stellar lineup of inspiring speakers, practitioners, performers, and up to 200 participants, this festival is sure to be an epic experience for the whole family.

Supporting Ecological Sustainability

The Punta Mona Center for Regenerative Design and Botanical Studies will provide the ideal setting: a thriving tropical fruit forest with over 200 species of fruits, nuts, and spices. Unlike most festivals, this venue is completely solar-powered and will provide a significant amount of the food. All other produce will be sourced from organic farms within the country, including 90% from within 50 miles of the site. That will result in a remarkably low carbon footprint, which will be further offset by the planting of hundreds of fruit trees to be donated to local farms. One of the key presenters is Jennifer Smith, founder of Community Carbon Trees, an organization that has planted over 520,000 trees within Costa Rica, leading the reforestation and carbon sequestration movement in Latin America.

Offering a Wealth of Wellness and Wisdom

Every morning and evening, participants will have several movement classes to choose from, including various forms of yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, Non-Impact Aerobics (NIA), High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), ecstatic dance, and Latin dance. In addition, a range of holistic healers will be available by appointment, including therapeutic massage, chiropractic care, acupuncture, breath-work, and energy healing.

During each day, there will be numerous workshops, unlimited buffet-style meals, and a two-hour siesta after lunch. The festival founder, Trey Abernethy, will offer seminars on reconnecting with nature, composting, biochar, and natural building with bamboo. Punta Mona founder, Stephen Brooks, and his wife, Sarah Wu, will lead farm tours, herbal plant walks, classes on permaculture, tree pruning, and traditional medicine crafting. John Kohler, founder of Growing Your Greens, will teach urban gardening and how to select the best quality fruits and vegetables. Brittney Johnson, founder of Fruit the World, will share insights on innate self-healing, herbal medicine, and prosperity consciousness. Cynthia Tina and Nick Joyce, who have both served on the board of directors for the Global Ecovillage Network and the Fellowship for Intentional Community, will present on ecovillage design, conflict resolution, and cultural rites of passage. Steven Murray, manager of Murray Family Farms and indigenous fruit explorer who has visited over 45 countries collecting nearly 2,000 rare varieties for cultivation in his research facility, will discuss his travels and lead a hands-on grafting demonstration. Katia Alferova, cross-cultural communications for NuMundo, will facilitate a collaborative session featuring multiple social benefit organizations. The schedule includes nearly twenty other wonderful presenters and many more workshops.

Evenings will conclude with live musical performances and jam sessions around the campfire.

Sharing Fantastic Fruits with the Whole Family

The unlimited buffet will include many common and rare varieties of papayas, pineapples, oranges, bananas, coconuts, plus many exotic fruits like jackfruit, soursop, marang, mangosteen, star fruit, snake fruit, rambutan, langsat, and the highly sought-after “king of fruits” durian.

This is a family event for adults and children of all ages. There will be a special kids zone with a playground and fun educational activities. Reserve your ticket today at CostaRicaFruitFest.com, and enjoy the sweet taste of health and harmony with nature!
