Costa Rican Company Saves ¢600,000 Per Month Thanks to Solar Panels

After installing solar panels to generate all their electricity, the Costa Rican company Florex has been able to save ¢600,000 per month.

The vice president of the firm, Silvia Chaves, confirmed this incredible story on Friday’s Nuestra Voz program.

The installation of the panels ended December 18 and since then all the electricity they need has been produced from the sun. Currently, they only pay one small bill to the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE): ¢8,000 per month in taxes.

Besides the economic savings, Chaves noted the advantages of achieving virtually zero emissions which is consistent with their market, as they offer organically produced and environmentally friendly products.

Another company that ventured into the solar arena is Mondaisa, who on Thursday announced the expansion of their production plant. According to its president Miguel Miranda, they hope that within a year they can be self-sufficient.

As part of its commitment to the environment, Mondaisa also has a project to harvest rain to save water during the dry season.
