Cuba Experienced a Record-Breaking Year for Tourism in 2014

The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Cuba received a record-breaking 3 million foreign tourists in 2014, which represents a 5.3% growth from the previous year.

The Cuban Ministry of Tourism reported this information on its official website, noting that this goal was achieved even though most of the year was impacted by US travel embargos, which prevented US citizens from visiting the island as tourists.

He also praised the work done by hotel chains, travel agencies, airlines and tour operators for their commitment to further diversify Cuban tourism and for expanding the use of technology to promote their offers.

With the restoration of relations between Cuba and the United States, it is expected that the tourism sector will greatly benefit from increased US visitors to the island in 2015.

International tourism is the second major source of income for Cuba; the 2.8 million international tourists in 2013 generated about 1.804 million dollars for the country.

Canada is the largest source of visitors to Cuba, followed by the UK, Germany, France, Argentina, Italy, Mexico, Spain and Venezuela, among others, according to official data. (EFE)
