Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific Rocked by a 6.0 Earthquake

    The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – A 6.0 earthquake shook the southern part of Costa Rica and the Panama border yesterday. Luckily no damage or injuries have been reported.

    The National Seismological Network (RSN) reported that the quake occurred at 11:21 local time (17:21 GMT) with its epicenter in the Pacific Ocean, 65 kilometers south of the community of Laurel, Puntarenas province, near the border with Panama.

    RSN explained that the 6.0 magnitude quake had a depth of 5 km and was caused by the tectonic fault known as the Panama Fracture.

    The quake was felt strongly along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, and the Panamanian province of Chirquí said the RSN. In addition, the quake was felt in San Jose and other locations in central Costa Rica. (ACAN-EFE)
