The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Members of Costa Rica Legislature will go on vacation for about a month and a half starting December 23, which has generated controversy because the country is in the midst of the campaign for the elections on February 2.
Several deputies of the opposition Citizen Action Party (PAC) today took a press conference in which they discussed various topics to show their discontent with the holiday period approved by the legislation on Monday and runs from December 23 to February 3.
“It’s an absolute rejection. It’s a very important period for the election campaign to assess the positions that each of the parties have,” said PAC deputy, Carmen Muñoz.
Political sectors have criticized the holidays given to members in the development of the campaign, which some will use to promote their presidential candidacies, as is the case of the leftist Frente Amplio, Jose Maria Villalta, and of the Evangelical Costa Rican Renovation Party, Justo Orozco.
Only the PAC in its entirety and some legislators from other parties opposed the extensive break.
Minister of the Presidency, Carlos Ricardo Benavides, said in a conference after the weekly government council that they will call the deputies for progress reports on different laws of great importance to the country in the coming weeks.
Among the priority projects noted is the law on biomedical research, a law to discourage the inflow of speculative foreign capital and a law to increase the limit of private power generation, among others. (EFE)
