    Costa Rica Police Found and Destroyed 4000 Marijuana Plants in Southern Zone

    San Jose – Costa Rica police continue their aggressive efforts to stop narcotic transits through Costa Rica and local narcotics growers and distributors.

    The Fuerza , in conjunction with the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) and the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Telecommunications (MINAE) continue enforcement efforts against local production and trafficking of drugs. The weekend, in Brunca Costa Rica destroyed 4,610 marijuana plants during an operation conducted in the canton of Buenos Aires.

    In this regard, the director of the security forces in that region, Edwin Miranda, said the operation took place after confidential reports pointed to the town of La Luchita, Potrero District, were movements of armed men, were spotted and apparently had a plantation of marijuana.

    After patrolling the area, police discovered several crops in a farm located two miles south of La Luchita, however, once on site, they approached a subject, Saldaña Ortiz, who became nervous and pretended he was planting corn.

    The suspect he had a long 22 caliber revolver in his possession, which was seized, as well as a 12-gauge shotgun stored on a ranch near the plants. The plant heights ranged between 10 cm and 1.6 meters high.

    Saldana was arrested and placed in the custody of the prosecution of Buenos Aires, while the plants were destroyed on site and a few were taken as evidence.

    It should be noted that in two other operations carried out this week, two men were arrested with 13 kilos of marijuana on the slopes of Chirripo National Park, and on Thursday 14, plants were destroyed in the district of Perez Zeledon Pejibaye.
