The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) will seek to attract new airlines to the country during the World Routes 2013 international fair, which will take place in Las Vegas, United States.

The fair, which will be held between October 5 to 8 in Las Vegas, will feature more than 300 airlines around the world, ICT said in a statement.

Tourism Minister Allan Flores explained that the purpose of ICT is to “create new linkages with global airlines to strengthen and facilitate the development of new routes.”

The ICT will have the opportunity to be in contact, face to face, with airlines and other stakeholders in the development of air routes.
According to Flores, this may mean developing air services are vital for the growth of tourism in the Central American country.

The marketing director of ICT, Ireth Rodriguez stressed the importance of the event as “an essential part of tourism โ€ฆ over time is to provide various options for routes that connect the destiny with the world’s major markets.”

This, said Rodriguez, generates “an increase in the number of seats available to our country.”

Airlines that have confirmed their participation in the event include KLM, United Airlines, Air France, British Airways, Air Asia, American Airlines and Lufthansa, among others.

The ICT will be accompanied by representatives of the two main airports, the Juan Santamaria, located on the outskirts of San Jose, and the Daniel Oduber, in the city of Liberia, Guanacaste (North Pacific).

The 19th edition of World Routes, organized by the Global Forum Route Development, is the biggest event of world airlines and will feature more than 3,000 high-level delegates from about 100 countries around the world participating.

Tourism is one of the main engines of the Costa Rican economy, as foreign exchange annually generates about 2 billion dollars with the visit of some 2.1 million foreign tourists. EFE
