The Costa Rica News (TCRN) โ€“ Since 2002, the driver’s license has remained at the same price, which negatively affects the system because the actual costs involved are not covered. Following this, they are planning on increasing its price, which in addition to covering expenses, would create more offices in several cantons.

This is according to Hugo Jimenez, director of Road Safety Education, who admitted that this is one of the long-term goals in order to minimize waiting lists and expedite a process which is tedious for most users.

“Not only have to think about the material and equipment, but also the security that it will give the country and improvement care.  It would be excellent if in each of the 81 counties we had a national licensing center so you would not have to go far from where you live to get it,” Jimenez said.

The director added that at this time the new price of the license is under analysis, both by the Road Safety Council and the leaders of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT).

Jimenez says the license fee is currently 5,000 colones.
