Activated Charcoal – Detox and Health Benefits

Natural medicine used by ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Native Americans

You may know charcoal as a handy ingredient to start your BBQ, or possibly the charred remains of a BBQ dinner gone wrong.  But there are some amazing health benefits to be gained from Activated Charcoal.  It has been used for hundreds of years as a natural ‘medicine’ to absorb chemicals, residue from pharmaceutical drugs, and heavy metals – all which contribute to serious health issues.  As Activated Charcoal actually absorbs these toxins from the body and is not re-absorbed into the body, it assists in expelling the toxins and leaving your body toxin-free and over-all cleaner.

Charcoal does have some great uses though

There are a number of benefits to be gained from using Activated Charcoal.  This type of ‘medicine’ is created by adding steam and acid to carbonaceous materials such as coal, coconut shells, wood, or rye starch.  Its absorptive capacity and surface area is enormous when you consider that a typical dosage is equivalent to the surface area found on 10 football fields!  As Activated Charcoal also assists in more regular bowel movements, this goes a long way in helping the body expel those toxins absorbed by the charcoal quickly.  It can be taken in pre-prepared capsules or used as a powder mixed with water or juices.

Activated charcoal has also been called ‘black magic’ due to its healing properties and color.  As far back as ancient Greece, healers like Hippocrates used this black magic to cure patients.  The list of benefits include:

  • Relief from bloating and gas

Binding the positive ionic charges of poisons and toxins due to its negative ionic charge, which then assists in elimination through the intestines.

  • Removing heavy metals such as aluminum and lead.
  • Deodorizing bad or even foul smells.
  • Reducing stomach ulcers.
  • Whitening teeth and eliminating bad breath when used as a toothpaste as it kills oral bacteria.
  • Reducing gas produced from gaseous foods, such as beans.
  • Purifies bathing or drinking water by eliminating chlorine and other micro-organisms.
  • Purifying water

Removing toxins from pharmaceutical drugs, such as aspirin as well as heavy metals.  It has been used for centuries to assist in health problems due to food poisoning.

  • Removing bacteria and parasites that range from a simple runny nose to meddlesome parasites.
  • Removing toxins caused by various fungi.

Perhaps you will look at that charred mess on the BBQ quite a bit differently now.
